Charter of the studio for restoration and conservation

The attention and commitment to quality and tradition, the techniques, the tools, the vocabulary and the products used in the studio are the same as those used in the 18th century.

All the basic products and their uses are explained in the studio.

All of the engraving work (de reparure) is executed after a casting has been made from the various original plaster of paris moulds available in the studio. These period examples will become our grammatical lexicon.

Our methodology is validated by the litterary references such as :

Il Libro dell' Arte de Cennino Cennini (1490)
Le Watin (1778)
Le Roret by M. J. Saulot (1886)

Our studio is commissioned by antique dealers, collectioners and private individuals to restore frames, consoles, barometeres, wainscotings, furniture and novel creations.

In addition we are employed to restore historique sites, both exteriors (forged iron gilding) and interiors (wainscotting and other structural material).

Treatment of Worm rot

This treatment is a natural insecticide achieved by oxygen deprivation (in worm eaten gilded wood, books, frames and paintings on wood as well as musical instruments) The goals is to eleminate all insect acitivity within a treated object. The insects are isolated within a bag containting an oxygen absorbing agent. The duration of the treatment is calculated by the size of the bag. The percentage of Oxygen is controled regularly by an oxygen meter guaranting optimum results.

This method and its results are certifiably guarantied. This process is used and validated by numerous museums.

Our studio has opted, as with most prestigous restorers, to intervene as little as possible, to restore only in most extremely cases or to correct an inappropriate restoration. In this way we can conserve the soul of an object of art.

All of the restoration completed in our studio is realised in total transparency including the techniques and products used.
